The Wife of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunominini Makinde has encouraged children in the State especially the less privilege to be proud of their present condition, advising that there is ability in disability.

Makinde said this during the distribution of gift items for Twenty-Seven (27) special homes and orphanages across the State to commemorate the 59th Independence Day Celebration of Nigeria specially organized for over One Hundred and Fifty-Five (155) children held at her office in Ibadan.

She noted, “Independence Day Celebration is usually marked with different activities, but I decided to celebrate with the less privileges to show how much I care for them, and this is after I have visited some homes to identify their challenges.

“These children are very special to my heart and will be very useful in the society, hence they need special care. We must go extra mile to care and cater for them as they have their destinies to fulfil,” she added.

While appreciating the caregivers for their support, dedication to humanity, love and care for the children, she enjoined them to use the gifts maximally for the benefits of the children, stressing that the gifts were for growth and development of the children.

She also charged them to be steadfast and not relent in their efforts as the children are special gifts from God and should be treated specially.

Earlier in her welcome address, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni appreciated the wife of the Governor for organizing a kind the special programme to celebrate with the children especially the less privilege in a special way.

Items distributed to the homes for children for special needs include cash, essential drugs, educational materials, food items, toiletries, diapers, detergents among others.

Highlights of the event were dancing, competition, playlet and dance drama among the joyous children in which the first lady participated.
