Oyo State has disclosed its programmes for the year 2020 celebration of Armed Forces Remembrance Day which would begin with launching of emblem for the Appeal Week Fund Raising on Monday, 6th January, 2020 at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan at 10:00am prompt.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni made this disclosure on Thursday in Ibadan.

Alhaja Sanni noted that, the annual celebration is organized to specifically honour and celebrate gallant members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who laid down their lives in the defense of territorial integrity and promotion of global peace.

She explained further that the event was to honour those that have suffered various setbacks as consequences of their participation in wars and to generate fund through donations for the welfare of their dependants.

Highlighting the programmes of the event further, Alhaja Sanni said, the State planning committee would also pay courtesy visits to dignitaries, military and paramilitary agencies on Tuesday, 7th and Wednesday, 8th January, 2020 respectively to appreciate them for their unflinching support.1

She also noted that candle-light procession would hold at the Military Cemetery, Jericho, Ibadan in honour and remembrance of the fallen heroes.

She stated further that, a special Jumat service was scheduled to hold on Friday 10th January, 2020 at Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba at 1:00pm while thanksgiving service would hold at The Cathedral of St’ Peters’ Aremo, Ibadan on Sunday 12th January, 2020 at 10:00am prompt.

The Commissioner hinted that, the climax of the week-long activities would be the Grand Finale which holds on Wednesday, 15th January, 2020 at the Remembrance Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan at 9:00am with laying of wreaths, parade, prayers for the repose of the fallen heroes and the nation at large among other things, adding that dignitaries and invited guests were to be seated by 8:00am.

She therefore enjoined all to attend punctually and donate generously for the success of the celebration.
