The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election, Seyi Makinde has promised to turn around the economy of the state if elected governor.
The governorship in a statement in Ibadan on Saturday said he was running to be people’s governor who represents the entire state.
Makinde who noted that the state was strategic in Nigeria and powered by hardworking families from every part of the state, said “we are creative, passionate and determined.
“I am running to be the people’s governor who represents our entire state and my plans for our economy will reflect this. Our government will invest in infrastructure, education and affordable healthcare.
“Whilst driving job creation by providing low-interest credit facilities and support for small business to make Oyo State an attractive place to do business, work and live”, he said.
He explained that his administration would invest in educational system from primary to secondary and tertiary level across the state and relive the burden of high school fees placed upon the students, parents and guardians.
He added that plans were in place to make the state’s educational institutions where youths and students in Nigeria aspire to study.
“Employment is one of the best ways to fight rising crime rates, keep families together and build a stable society.
“One of the main priorities as your governor will be to provide an enabling environment for business so that more jobs can be created, ensure that workers salaries are paid as at when due and their rights are protected.
“Any unconstitutional policies of the out-going administration which are not in the interest of the people of Oyo State will be duly reviewed”, Makinde said.
The PDP governorship candidate assured that an effective feedback system would be put in place “so that I am informed about the governance, challenges faced by students, youths, adults and the vulnerable people among us”.
He added “together we will build a new Oyo State where everyone is an important stakeholder. I promise to focus on sundry problems. Every person in Oyo State has a value and for us to transform our state for better, we must do it together.
“It’s time we return Oyo State to a place where we treat each other with humility, dignity”, he said.
