Oyo State Government has inaugurated Road Safety Club and Advocacy program in Governor Seyi Makinde’s alma-mater, Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Dr. Akin Fagbemi, revealed this in his office, saying it is in continuation of its efforts to domesticate the club in Oyo State Secondary Schools.

He said, the advocacy team, comprising of National Youth Service corps members, attached to OYRTMA, reiterated that the program is to further enhance the actualization of the Strategic Roadmap for Accelerated Development Plan 2019-2023 of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, particularly in the area of traffic management and ample reduction of road crashes involving school pupils and other vulnerable in the society.

The team also intimated the students of the imminent State-wide Essay Competition on ‘Effective Road Traffic Management Strategies’ scheduled to commence in the second quarter of the year.

They added that the competition would include University undergraduates as participants, while several awards would be presented to the best candidates.

He revealed that, students of Bishop Philips Academy, Iwo Road, Ibadan received OYRTMA’s team with excitement and adopted the initiative by Oyo State Government to sensitize school pupils on road safety tips.

“They were received amidst an excited crop of students and staffs who could not hide their acceptance and adoption of the initiative by the State Government to sensitize the school pupils and teachers on road safety tips, rules and regulations”, he said.

“The attentive pupils of Bishop Philips Academy garnered several knowledge on Highway Safety Precautions, Traffic Rules and Regulations and Secretes to becoming successful and high-flying students”, he added.

Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan, is the second school in the State where RSC would be inaugurated by the State Government, following an initial inauguration at Loyola College, Ibadan two weeks ago.

The Corp Members who distributed some gift items to the students during the event equally expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the great opportunity accorded them to mentor the younger generations.
