The Oyo State Agency for Youth Development is a service organ of the Government to mobilize, guide, encourage and empower the youth of this State with a view of preparing them for smooth integration physically, socially, psychologically and productively into the mainstream of the society.
The Agency for Youth Development formerly known as the Oyo State Youth Development Council has its name changed through a law enacted in 2002 i.e. Oyo State Agency for Youth Development Law 2002.

Our Vision

To develop programmes and project that would protect the right of the Youth between ages 18 and 29 years, made them responsible citizen, empower them through skills acquisition, promote their full participation in the overall development process and improve their quality of life.

Our Mission

  • Empowering the youth through the skills acquisition and provision of equipment to be self reliant for sustainable future.
  • To train youth in leadership skills in order to become responsive and responsible citizen.
  • To mobilize and encourage youth participation in the overall development process.
  • To guide, counsel and impact skills that will promote positive behaviour and exact self esteem in young people.
  • To inculcate in the young ones leadership qualities, good citizenry and sense of patriotism.

Our Objectives

  • To empower Youth through Skill Acquisition and Vocational Training Programme.
  • To positively engage the youth in order to channel their energy into productive use/re-orientation.
  • To achieve significant percentage drop in HIV/AIDS prevalence among the youth population in the State.
  • To encourage youth groups and organizations to form registered Co-operatives societies in order to have access to Micro Finance on completion of skill training.
  • To train the youths in leadership skills in order to integrate them to social economic transformation programme of the State.
  • To improve on the physical infrastructure facilities being managed by the Agency for Youth Development.
  • To increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the State.

  • Registration, supervision, co-ordination and monitoring of all Voluntary Youth Organizations to perform effectively and efficiently in their efforts at youth development.
  • Capacity Building of youth in conjunction with all Youth Organizations both Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations.
  • Rendering guidance and counseling services for young persons in the State.
  • Provision of IEC materials to disseminate necessary information on youth related issues for optimum development of youth in the State.

  • According to the law earlier mentioned, the Agency should have Chairman being a political head supported by one Full Time and six Part Time Board Members while the Executive Secretary is the Administrative Head and the Accounting Officer.In addition, there are Six (6) directorates and each is headed by a Director, Also, a Public Workfare Project Implementation Unit (PWFPIU of World Bank YESSO) domiciled in the Agency. The directorates are:-

Function of Youth Empowerment Department

  1. To establish programmes and projects that would promote economic, social and cultural empowerment of the youth towards self reliance.
  2. Organizing various Youth Award Schemes that encourage personal discovery and growth, self reliance, perseverance, responsibility to themselves and service to their communities.
  3. To encourage young people to develop sense of adventure, improve personal potentials, skills and interest.
  4. Organizing sports and cultural competitions among the youth towards identifying and developing their talents.

Function of Youth Mobilization and Voluntary Organization Department

  1. Registration and co-ordination of all Voluntary Youth Organisation in the State Youth Consultative Committee.
  2. Policy formulation for all Youth Organisations in the State to perform effectively and efficiently in their various programmes.
  3. Monitoring of all activities of all Youth Organisations in the State.
  4. Employment and effective use of talent in development of the state including capacity building of Youths in conjunction with all Youth Organisations in the State.
  5. Organisation/co-ordination of activities of Youths in the State in conjunction with Government and Non-Government Organisations.
  6. Mobilization and sensitization of Youth into positive part-time and recreational activities.
  7. Organization and co-ordination of all educational programmes meant for youth organization in the State.

Function of Youth Guidance and Counseling Department

  1. Organisation and co-ordination of all educational programmes meant for youth organization in the State.
  2. Rendering guidance and counselling programmes concerning young person in the State.
  3. Disseminating information, news, ideas, view and policy of government affecting youths. All other literatures concerning youth organizations and activities within and outside the country are to be published by this department.
  4. Co-ordination of information flow between the various Youth Organisations.
  5. Organisation of school debates, symposia, quiz competitions and question time programmes in conjunction with Ministry of Education.

Function of Citizenship and Leadership Department

  1. Organisation of Citizenship and Leadership training programmes for all categories of Youth.
  2. Organisations of Youth camping activities in the State.
  3. Organisations of Holiday and Work-camp programme.
  4. Organisations of orientation programme for graduating apprentices in all fields from time to time on ways of contributing meaningfully to the economy of the State.
  5. To ensure that all leadership training programmes are geared towards social, economic and political attainment.
  6. Organisation of intensive short-time youth Leadership Courses where emphasis is placed on traits development.
  • 250 youth were trained on Business and Solar Panel Installation and Sales.
  • 220 Artisans were trained in Capacity Building.
  • Celebration of the 2019 National Youth Week in the State with 2,000 youth in attendance.
  • 6,869 youth were engaged in Public Workfare of Youth Employment Social Support Operation (YESSO).
  • Graduation of 310 youth Artisans in Literacy programme.
