Prior the carving out of Iganna Local Council Development Area, Iwajowa Local Government occupies about 147, 677, 000 sq km landmass with a population of 102, 980, according to 2006 census.
Iwajowa Local Government is bounded in the North by Itesiwaju Local Government, in the south by Ibarapa North Local Government, in the East by Kajola Local Government and in the West by Republic of Bennin.
Some of the major towns are Iwere-Ille, Ilaji, Ijio, Samo, Temidire-Ijio, Adejumo, Aladura, Budo Musa, Agbaruru, Gede and over 350 villages and farm settlements. The habitants of the area are predominantly Yoruba co-habiting peacefully with other tribes such as; Fulani, Hausa, Tiv, Egede and others who engage in cattle rearing, large scale farming and hunting. This explains why food and cash crops are readily available at considerably cheaper rate.
Equally, the council is endowed with rich culture glazed with annual traditional festivals such as; Oro, Ogun, Sango and Egungun festivals and also Gelede cultural display.
Social Services
In order to make life comfortable for its citizenry, the council embarked on the following:
- Construction of culverts, Drainage, Earthwork and Asphatic tarring of Baptist Grammar School Road, Oke-Afin, Iganna (335m X 7.30m)
- Construction of Model Centre Road, Iwere-Ile
- Construction of Ameye RCM Primary School Road, Iwere-Ile (580m X 730m)
- Completion of 9m x 3.9m x 2.1m double cell convert at Omi Stream along Model Health Centre, Agbaruru Road, Iwere-Ile
- Construction of vocational training centre at Iwere-Ile
- Construction of vocational training centre at Iganna
- Construction of Olorunda Baptist Church/Ilero-Iganna Road, Oke-Afin, Iganna (772m x 7.30m)
- Asphatic tarring and Hydraulic structures of General Hospital to Stadium Road, Iwere-Ile (0.72km x 7.3m)
- Asphatic tarring of Orokunle House to Agbo House Road, Itasa (625m x 7.3m)
- Construction of Town Hall at Iganna
- Construction of unit of Bungalow/Block of 12 lock-up stores at Elekokan and Olorunda maarket
- Construction of a Block of 3 classroom with Headmaster’s Office, Toilet and Store at Ofeegun, Abule Tapa, ADS Model College, Iwere-Ile and Community School, Onikoro.
- Five (5) modern public toilets
- Drilling of motorized boreholes with power Generators
- Construction of 5 transformer platforms
- Sinking of 30 deep wells in all the villages in the local GovernmentEducationThe council embarked on, the distribution of education materials to all the public schools in the Local Government.
- Award of Bursary to all the indigenous students in the Local Government
- Construction of 18 blocks of classroom across the public schools in the Local Government
- Construction of a Block of 3 classroom with Headmaster’s office, toilet and store at Ofeegun, Abule Tapa, ADS Model College, Iwere-Ile and Community Primary School, Onikoro.
- Payment of Bursary to 346 students of Iwajowa Local Government studying in Higher Institutions of learning
- Payment of NECO Registration fees for SSS candidates of Iwajowa Local Government.
Environmental Health Services
- Chlorination of deep wells and other sources of water supply in the Local Government Area.
- Regular fumigation of health centers and staff quarters.
- Clearing of heap of refuse on regular basis at different locations
- Purchase and distribution of refuse dust bins.
- Local enlightenment campaign programmes on illegal dumping of refuse along the water way.
- Regular clearing of Drains across ten wards of the Local Government
Agriculture And Natural Resources
- Purchase of 16 tractors for the use of local farmers
- Distribution of free cattle drugs to Fulani and Bororo
- Purchase and distribution of 600 pieces of cutlasses for the use of local farmers free of charge
- Training on High yield cassava production, fish rearing and poultry.
- Purchase and free distribution of 120 knap sack machine for the use of local farmers
Primary Health Care
- Regular monthly purchase of drugs for the use of local government health centre
- Regular participation in the routine N.I.D and L.I.D Immunization exercises
- Free Medicare for Aged and Widows in the Local Government Area
- Purchase of Two Ultra sound machines
- Participation at free Health mission
- Participation at Roll back Malaria Programme – Net Distribution
- Participation at Operation know your HIV/AIDS Status
- Establishment of Aged and widow clinic
- Distribution of generating set to the Health Centers in the Local Government Area
Poverty Alleviation/Empowerment Programme
- Purchase and free distribution of 32 motorcycles to unemployed youths.
- Purchase and distribution of 65 Grinding Machines as poverty Alleviation programmes
- Payment of N10, 000.00 each to 50 market women in the local government
- Payment of monthly stipends to the aged and widows in the local government
- Distributions cattle crops free of charge to the Fulani/Bororo Herdsmen
- Moral and financial support for women empowerment.
- Monthly stipends for 500 widows and Aged selected across the ten wards of the LG for almost about 3years
Provision of working tools for trained artisians such as; Mechanic, Welder, Bricklayer, Plumber, Capenter, Hairdresser, Vulcanizer, Barber, Tailor .Regular participation at weekly and monthly environmental sanitation exercise
