Ogbomoso South West Local Council Development Area

Ogbomoso South West Local Council Development Area, Ajegunle-Ibapon was carved out of Ogbomoso South Local Government, Arowomole, Ogbomoso via Oyo state of Nigeria, Gazette Volume 41. No 21 of 20th October, 2016 and the government business took off on the 18th January, 2017 from Local Government Service Commission.

The operations begin from the Transition Committee Chairman, Hon. Adeyemo Adedeji as the political head of the Local Council Development Area. He gives directives on the day to day running of the Local Council Development Area as well as policy issues.

The council manager, Evang. Timothy Lafimihan Awotunde, is the administrative head of the local council development area. He works directly with the chairman and coordinates the activities of all departments in the Local Council Development Area.

There are eight (8) functional departments in the Local Council Development Area. They are;

  • Administrative and general services
  • Finance and Supplies
  • Agriculture and Natural Resources
  • Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics
  • Education and Social Services
  • Environmental Health Service
  • Primary Health Care
  • Works, Transport, Housing, Land and Survey

Each of the aforementioned departments is being manned by a director and assisted by the deputy director except the departments of budget, planning, research and statistics and primary health care, which are yet to have deputy directors, also, there are unit/sectional heads which include the internal auditor who is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring internal prudency of the finances of the local council development area. Others include: head of estate & valuation unit, establishment officer, cashier, rate officer and so on.

Ogbomoso S/W LCDA has about one hundred and twenty (120) regular members of staff which was carved out of Ogbomoso South Local Government.

Development thrives in peaceful and secured environment. Thus, Ogbomoso S/W local council development area is reputed for prevailing peace and security of lives and properties.

Generally, the populace is peace loving; there is religious tolerance and ethnic groups cpo-exist in harmony. To sustain this trend, the Peace and Security Committee serve as standing stabilizing agent for the nipping in the bud of any potential act capable of threatening peace and security in the Local Council Development Area.

The Local Council Development Area also maintains cordial inter-governmental relationship with the security operatives and other government agencies within the local council by giving them logistic support when necessary.

The officials of the Local Council are also performing the statutory responsibilities in consonance with the rules and regulations guiding the operational activities of the Local Government services.

Ogbomoso South West Local Council Development Area is bounded in the north by ogbomoso North Local Government, Ogbomoso and in the west by Ogo-Oluwa Local Council Development Area while in the east, it shares boundary with Orire Local Government, Ikoyi.

There are some major areas in Ogbomoso South West Local Council Development Area, these include: Temidire, Caretaker, Atanda Layout Farm Settlement, Owolaake, Akata, Ayetoro, Odokoto, Ajegunle-Ibapon and Alakoso.

It is mainly a wetland with adequate fertile soil. The major occupation of the people in the area is farming and their contributions in terms of food production in Oyo state cannot be overestimated. The predominant crops include: maize, cassava, yam, watermelon and cash crops like cashew, palm trees and mango.
