Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Area

The Local Council Development Area was created in August 2016 alongside other 34 LCDA’s across the state by the Sen. Abiola Ajimobi led administration. It was created to bring development closer to the people at the grassroots. It has its administrative and operational headquarters at Oja-Igbo, the base of the old Ogbomoso Local Government. The council was carved out of the present Ogbomoso North Local Government. As a matter of fact, the LCDA at present controls 8 wards out of the 10 wards constituting the former Ogbomoso North Local Government

Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Area, with its headquarters at Oja’gbo, Ogbomoso came into being on October 6th, 2016, through the enactment of Local Government (Further Amendment) Law, 2016 of Oyo State from Ogbomoso North Local Government, Kinnira, Ogbomoso.

Pursuant to the circular letter Reference Number c.1324/204 of 16th January, 2017 titled “Posting of staff from the Existing Local Government to the Newly Created Local Council Development Area in Oyo State” which emanated from the Local Government Service Commission, Secretariat, Ibadan, Ogbomoso Local Council Development Area Secretariat at Oja’gbo–Ogbomoso officially opened to government business accordingly.

The LCDA is bounded by Ogbomoso South Local Government Area to the south, Surulere Local Government to the east and Ogbomoso North Local Government to the west and north. The inhabitants are predominantly Muslims and Christians with sizeable number of traditionalists. The presence of large number of Churches and Mosques attested to this assertion, hence, their God fearing attributes. Despite the multiplicity in their belief and orientation as regards religion, there exists religious harmony and peaceful co-existence in Ogbomoso LCDA.

The people of Ogbomoso Central LCDA are peace-loving, socially refined, educationally advanced, well-travelled engaging in one legitimate venture or the other and with a high sense of political culture. The indigenes of the Council Development Area are well known for subsistent/commercial farming taking advantage of the fertile soil, which allows for cultivation of arable and cash crops e.g. cassava, tomatoes, maize, melon, yam, guinea corn, okro, mangoes, cashew, to mention but a few.

The council is metropolitan in nature, having effective network of accessible roads linking to some major trunk “A” roads. Indeed, virtually all the major roads within the LCDA are tarred with asphaltic bitumen. The LCDA comprises of eight (08) wards, as created by the immediate past administration namely;

The Local Council Development Area is populated by civil servants, farmers, entrepreneurs, traders, seasoned politicians, artisans, market men and women.

Notable features of urbanization in terms of tarred roads network, electrification, functioning deep wells and boreholes for supplying of portable water, private and public health delivery services, concentration of basic and post-basic schools and tertiary institutions, especially Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

Education

In addition to the publicly run schools, there are availability of privately owned primary and secondary schools in the council area. Also the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) is within the jurisdiction of the LCDA. In short, access to institutions of learning is not a problem for our people.

Tourism

In fact, the LCDA possess a lot of potentials in tourism. We have lots of tourist attractions. We also have standard hotels and relaxation centres for intending visitor/tourist to relax and unwind. One of the tourist attractions we have is the historic and agelong tortoise at the palace of Soun of Ogbomoso which according to history has spent above 300years. We also have annual masquerade festivals which attract people from far and near among others. Ogbomoso Central LCDA parades the best hotels and guest houses in town. Security

The LCDA places high premium on the issue of safety of lives and property. As such, it has contributed to play both supportive and collaborative efforts with the security agencies in order to ensure that people move around without fear and transact their lawful business. The LCDA has been supporting the existing and conventional security apparatus and also collaborate with the latter with its vigilante team in ensuring that the area is kept clean of miscreants that could punctuate the peaceful atmosphere prevalent in our society.

Health

At present, the LCDA effectively run seven health/maternity centres. These include: Okeelerin, Aduin, Masifa, Gaa Masifa, Baaki and the Ibrahim Taiwo Primary Healthcare Centre, Oja’gbo. Apart from these facilities, we have quite a number of registered health facilities. In addition, there is a teaching hospital lying and situated at Ogbomoso North- Bowen University Teaching Hospital and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, all within the reach in less than ten minutes drive

  • Road Maintenance and Construction
  • Improved healthcare delivery system
  • Adequate attention to the educational needs of our children
  • More support and collaboration in the area of protection of lives and property
  • Attention to be given to the aged, widow and vulnerable in the area.
  • Necessary support for farmers and agro-related ventures with a view to economically empower our people

  • Empowerment programme especially for our teeming unemployed youth.
  • Education:
  1. Printing and distribution of notebooks to primary schools pupils in the LCDA.
  2. Payment of bursary award to indigent students of the LCDA.
  3. Construction of blocks of classrooms.
  4. Designing and distribution of flex banners with the inscription of the National Anthem and the Oyo state Anthem by Hon.  Adeyinka Remi Oluwaseun, the present Caretaker Committee Chairman.
  • Environmental Sanitation:
  1. Evacuation of refuse and clearing of blocked drainages were regularly done.
  2. Also, the weekly and monthly sanitation are being observed as directed by the state government.
  • Health:
  1. Regular supply of drugs and other medical facilities to all health centers.
  2. Series of campaign and sensitization enlightenment program of any epidemic diseases if the need arises.
  3. Sensitization campaign and awareness jingles against the contagious corona virus (COVID 19)
  • Community Development Projects:
  1. Installation of transformers electrification and repair of electrical poles
  2. Installation of generating plants, and Restoration of electricity to the LCDA Secretariat.
  3. Purchase of durable plastic chairs to the Mini-hall in the LCDA
  4. Construction of a culvert at Oke Elerin junction
  5. Grading of roads along stadium road, Under G area, e.t.c
  6. Dredging of waterways in the LCDA.
  • Youth and Women Development:
  1. Recruitment of Ad-hoc staffs to health centers
  2. Assistance to women to start small scale businesses
  3. Donation of cash gifts, clothes and foods to individuals as well as recruitment of security personnel
  • Agriculture:
  1. Distribution of Bajaj motorcycles with 20 helmets to ward chairmen and Youth leaders.
  2. Procurement of farm tools and fertilized maize seeds for distributions to farmers.
